So this past weekend we did all the traditional fall things. Grandpa and Grandma were kind enough to let us borrow some of their fallen leaves to play in, and Daddy helped Abbie and Nathan through the steps of pumpkin carving.
Leaf Fest 2008
Grandpa let us play in his wonderland yard of leaves. To my amazement the pile we played in was just the leaves from one of their trees. Nathan was mostly content to sit in the pile and push the leaves around with his rake. Abbie, however, was the adventurer. She loved to have Grandpa throw her up in the air and land in the leaves. Much laughter was heard when Grandpa decided to get in on the action and jump into the pile. At that point, I wasn't sure who was having more fun. Thanks Grandpa and Grandma for a great afternoon.
Abbie and Nathan loved the giant leaf pile. Nathan loved pushing the leaves with his rake, and Abbie loved diving into the pile.
The kids were completely covered in leaves. I was finding leaf fragments in shoes for days later, but they had oodles of fun.
For our traditional FHE before Halloween, Daddy helped the kids carve their pumpkins. Nathan was very excited and kept yelling, "Let me see! Let me see!" even though he was only inches away from the action. They were pretty good to color their pumpkin pictures while Daddy did the grownup work with the knife. When Nathan saw the pumpkin guts and seeds he declared it yucky, and he thought this pumpkin thing was pretty fun. Abbie was pretty particular about how she wanted the carving to be on her pumpkin, but I think that Dad was able to satisfy her wishes. Unfortunately, Nathan didn't take too well to the carmel apples we had for a treat, but Abbie thought the new kind of sauce was yummy.
So that's our tribute to fall this year. I think we all had fun even Andrew. He didn't really get in on any of the activities, but he looked extremely content while he was sleeping through it all.
