Things I learned, relearned and remembered...take 2

It seems like October is the month where I get to remember and learn things. Some may recall my lessons from last year. While this year's experiences were very different, I still felt that I needed to take note of some things I have learned, relearned and remembered this time around...
  • If you plan it right, trick-or-treating from bedroom to bedroom is almost as much fun as going door to door especially if sickness has kept you from ever experiencing the real thing.
  • Angels come in all forms. Sometimes they just say a kind word. Sometimes they stop by bearing chocolate or a pizza box. Sometimes they go above and beyond your expectations. Sometimes they just answer the phone...again.
  • A little sunshine can really brighten a rough day. So can a little son.
  • There maybe a day when you are grateful you are reminding your four-year-old son to stop jumping on his bed because finally he feels up to jumping on his bed.
  • Just take it one day at a time. Solving the future's problems isn't always necessary.
  • It is possible to watch It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown over 15 times in three days.
  • Family nap time is sacred. Don't mess with nap time.
  • Having access to good doctors is a good blessing. Thank you Dr. Pediatrician sir for having extended hours.
  • The reason why the standard Sunday School answers work for almost every question is because they really work.
  • You know you have had a hard few days when the mother in the Grapes of Wrath starts looking chipper compared to you.
  • If at all possible, try to have only one virus to fight off at a time. It'll quicken the recovery time.
  • Celebrating Halloween with Christmas carols really changes the mood and feel of the holiday.
  • Having a collection of stuffed animals for your child to enjoy is a good thing. Having a collection of stuffed animals that the child has collected from hospital visits isn't quite as good.
  • When calories are all that count, allow your child to just eat the chocolate donut, chocolate pudding, and chocolate milk for lunch--at least the appetite is coming back. You both will survive.
  • Sharing is good most of the time, but it's hard to explain that to your still contagious yet undiagnosed kind-hearted son that he really shouldn't share his lunch with his little brother.
  • Blood glucose runs your life. Be grateful if you don't know why.
  • Folding laundry is a good way to take your mind off things. I have a lot of practice.
  • Sometimes the nicest thing someone can do is bring you a peanut butter sandwich.
  • Sometimes the nicest thing is having someone to bring you a peanut butter sandwich.
  • If all you accomplish in a day is survival and growing a new person, it can still count as a productive day.
  • You aren't the worst mother in the world simply because you forgot to help your first grader finish her extra credit candy sorting homework until the morning it was due. Just be grateful she cared enough to finish it anyway.
  • Everything is going to be OK.

Some very good things to remember. I especially like "A little sunshine can really brighten a rough day. So can a little son." This is so true!
