Our happenings

So I know our blog has been somewhat neglected of late. We have been busy with holiday stuff, and then our computer decided that connecting to our wireless internet was optional, and so although I was constantly thinking of questions to ask the blogosphere, I was unable to contact the outside world. I had serious withdrawal symptoms. After Michael corrected the computer problem (you know it is really nice to have an in-house techie sometimes... :-) Abbie had to practice on the computer because according to her the people on PBS kids needed her to play all the new games. I have been doing more laundry than I thought humanly possible. And did I mention that I have an eight-week-old baby? Yeah... things have been bloggable, but by the time things quiet down, my brain has turned off. So our blog has been neglected, but I am trying to do a catch up tonight so this post is a random catch up post, and I am pulling a marathon posting session for pics, etc.

Yesterday while I was trying to watch the First Presidency Devotional, Nathan was trying to read me a story on my lap. Evidently, the story became very exciting because he had to turn around and show me the pictures. Because I wasn't paying attention to my son but rather Pres. Monson, the corner of the board book hit me with a full Nathan thrust in the eye. Talk about pain! At first I thought my eye was going to fall out and then as the tearing began which was quickly accompanied by the throbbing and piercing pain, I was thinking that if it did fall out it might at least feel better. After several hours of horrible pain and tearing, I was finally able to close my eye and keep it closed without wanting to rip my eyelashes out one by one. I left the eye closed for the night, and when I woke up this morning, my eye resembled Quasimodo due to swelling and redness. (Fortunately for all blog readers, photos were not taken of the hideous sight and thus will not be posted here.)

Fortunately, my bizarre appearance improved as the day progressed, but I am sure that Abbie's preschool teacher and Nathan's speech therapist thought I had my holidays mixed up. At least they didn't say anything about my Halloweenesque eyeball. I was very blessed that I didn't experience blurred vision or a headache. My eyeball and eyelid are still really tender, but I am definitely on the mend. I am also once again very thankful for my Lasik surgery. I don't want to think about what might have happened if I were still wearing those horrid contacts! Moral of the story: as important as the prophet's message may be, pay attention to your son.

Today Abbie helped us remember our plumbing skills as she accidentally, of course, helped the toilet to overflow. Three good things about the experience: Michael was home at the time to help with the aftermath, and as I had just done the laundry load of towels, I had plenty of clean towels to clean up the mess, and the bathroom floor got a really good mopping after all was said and done.

Andrew is quite possibly the world's best baby. This kid is very low maintenance. Now I know that is probably not the best phrase for a mother to use in describing her child especially her newborn son, but I am telling you this baby is great. He rarely cries. He grunts when he is needs something and you can usually tell by the volume level and pitch of the grunt what he needs. He smiles all time and is perfectly content to be in the swing or his crib and just ponder the mysteries of the world. He is growing like crazy. He makes fun noises which Abbie interprets as full phrases. Nathan means to be gentle with him, but hey--the kid is only two, and Andrew handles it all very well. Andrew just makes us all happy.

Oh, and did I mention he has incredibly kissable chubby cheeks?

Nathan has been making great progress with his speech therapy. With no coaching, he is starting to say words correctly that he really struggled with before. It's great to see him get really excited when you congratulate him on his successes. It makes all the effort for the therapy worthwhile. Congrats, Naters!

Nathan and Abbie are taking a break from coloring giant Christmas pictures, and Nathan is showing me his "good boy face."

Abbie is just doing great. She's a great helper, is doing great in preschool and primary, and is learning great things. Plus, she has this wonderful talent of constantly cracking us up...see sidebar for specifics.

Enjoying the beaters used in brownie making for tonight's FHE treat.

Michael is busy with finals (only three more sleeps until Fall Semester 2008 is history, well, two if you don't count the all nighter he will most likely be pulling tonight).

Mostly, we are all doing fabulously. While our routines may not be adventurous, we are having fun.
